00:34:54 --> crc-err0r has joined #instantbird 00:43:24 <crc-err0r> I've been having some issues with Instantbird 1.1-release.. I've taken a quick glance at Bugzilla but I don't see anybody else with these problems. 00:45:00 <crc-err0r> First one is that sometimes, I'll hear an incoming-message sound, but there will be no conversation window on my screen or in the taskbar. I'll have to right-click on each of my contacts until I find one with the option to "Show Conversation" (even though the conversation was never put on hold, and doesn't display in the normal place for ones that are on hold) 00:46:16 <crc-err0r> Second issue is that any other time I receive a message which DOES open a conversation window, there are no sounds.. and I've verified that the option to 'Play sounds on messaging events' is enabled. 00:49:20 <crc-err0r> Third issue, which I've been able to work around, is that Google Talk seems to be completely broken in 1.1-release.. It attempts to connect, but times out. I updated to 1.2a1pre and it still timed out. However, when I downgraded to 1.0-release and created the account, it worked fine.. until I upgraded to 1.1-release, then it timed out again. 00:50:23 <crc-err0r> But upgrading to 1.2a1pre made the account created in 1.0-release work again.. although Google Talk accounts added in 1.1-release would still time out, and ones added with 1.2a1pre have issues with the password 00:50:46 <crc-err0r> I poked around in about:config and it appears that the key for the account's password is not being created with the account. 00:51:50 <crc-err0r> I've posted details on that in this ticket -- https://bugzilla.instantbird.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1232 00:51:53 <instantbot> Bug 1232 maj, --, ---, nobody, UNCO, Google Talk (gtalk) account default configuration doesn't work 00:56:27 --> aleth has joined #instantbird 01:03:19 <aleth> flo: yeah, looks like it hasn't seen any changes in a while. 01:09:36 <-- aleth has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 02:48:36 <-- Tomek has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.1) 03:16:47 <-- SM0TVI has quit (Connection reset by peer) 03:17:26 --> SM0TVI has joined #instantbird 03:19:54 <-- Mautematico has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 03:36:11 --> ecaron has joined #instantbird 04:09:57 <-- ecaron has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.1) 04:16:19 <instant-buildbot> build #380 of linux-nightly-default is complete: Success [build successful] Build details are at http://buildbot.instantbird.org/builders/linux-nightly-default/builds/380 04:25:47 <-- micahg_ has quit (Quit: Ex-Chat) 04:29:35 --> micahg has joined #instantbird 05:53:07 <instant-buildbot> build #465 of win32-nightly-default is complete: Success [build successful] Build details are at http://buildbot.instantbird.org/builders/win32-nightly-default/builds/465 06:52:33 <instant-buildbot> build #371 of macosx-nightly-default is complete: Success [build successful] Build details are at http://buildbot.instantbird.org/builders/macosx-nightly-default/builds/371 08:43:37 <flo> crc-err0r: hello, thanks for the feedback :) 08:44:03 <flo> lots of different questions/issues in what you said, I'll try to reply; I hope I won't forget anything 08:46:53 <flo> "I'll hear an incoming-message sound, but there will be no conversation window on my screen or in the taskbar." this seems like bug 1076. I've never seen this myself, but someone from our teem does see it sometimes too. Unfortunately, we don't have enough information about the issue to fix it :( 08:46:57 <instantbot> Bug https://bugzilla.instantbird.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1076 nor, --, ---, nobody, UNCO, Messages randomly getting lost in the background 08:48:06 <flo> "any other time I receive a message which DOES open a conversation window, there are no sounds.." never heard of an issue like this. Could it be somehow related to your sound driver which wouldn't allow several different applications to play sounds at once? 08:50:05 <flo> "Google Talk seems to be completely broken in 1.1-release.. It attempts to connect, but times out." Google Talk (as far as I know), works out of the box in Instantbird 1.1. The only case I know that is broken is accounts created a very long while ago (with Instantbird 0.2 of before), and they don't fail with a timeout. I would like to know the details of your configuration for this account. 08:51:28 <flo> "it appears that the key for the account's password is not being created with the account." Current nightly builds use the Mozilla Password manager to store the passwords; for more security, passwords are no longer stored in the preferences, so you can't see them any more from about:config. This isn't a bug. 08:52:21 <flo> We have an automatic conversion of passwords stored in the preferences for compatibility between older releases and newer versions, but not the other way around (as that would defeat the security improvement that using the password manager brings) 09:13:25 <crc-err0r> flo: thank you for the replies. i'll try to respond in order-- 09:14:59 <crc-err0r> i'm having the same issues as Eric in #1076, i guess i overlooked that during my search. 09:15:30 <flo> it's ok to miss a bug sometimes. It happens to all of us ;). Thanks for searching at least! :) 09:16:06 <crc-err0r> my sound error seems to have been relieved by 1.2a1pre (2012-01-26-04), but it was something that suddenly started happening, without changes to sound hardware or drivers. 09:16:26 <flo> if you have more information than what eric has already put there, don't hesitate to add a comment :) 09:17:00 <crc-err0r> it's actually likely that my google talk account was created back during Instantbird 0.2x .. i noticed from playing around with a few different builds that the keys created varied between releases 09:17:08 <flo> by the way, what's your OS? Sounds tend to be less reliable on Linux if I remember correctly 09:17:20 <crc-err0r> Win7 64 Home Premium 09:20:56 <flo> is it configured as a Google Talk account, or an XMPP account? 09:21:51 <crc-err0r> Google Talk 09:22:06 <flo> what do you mean by "timeout"? 09:22:20 <flo> is the message "SSL connection failed" or something like that? 09:22:42 <crc-err0r> no nothing like that.. it didn't specify anything 09:22:48 <crc-err0r> nothing in the error console either 09:25:33 <crc-err0r> i've been using the same profile since 0.2 (possibly earlier).. might have had something to do with it. 09:25:36 <flo> was there something in the "connect server" advanced parameter? 09:25:56 <crc-err0r> it was either gmail.com or talk.google.com 09:26:25 <flo> it would be interesting to try after emptying that field 09:26:53 <flo> is your gmail account username @gmail.com ? @googlemail.com ? @<custom domain> ? 09:27:17 <crc-err0r> gmail.com 09:30:04 <flo> ok. For Instantbird 1.1 you shouldn't have anything in the "connect server" field :) 09:33:48 <crc-err0r> it might have been something i tried while troubleshooting... but the main issue i was having is that deleting the existing account in Instantbird and creating a new one would also give me the same problem. 09:36:48 --> Even1 has joined #instantbird 09:37:15 <-- Even1 has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 09:37:19 --> Even1 has joined #instantbird 10:00:30 <-- Tonnes has quit (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.88 [Firefox 9.0.1/20111220165912]) 10:23:36 <-- chrisccoulson has quit (Quit: Ex-Chat) 10:35:54 --> aleth has joined #instantbird 10:38:16 --> Tonnes has joined #instantbird 10:46:46 --> gerard-majax has joined #instantbird 10:47:10 <-- gerard-majax has quit (Connection reset by peer) 10:47:13 --> gerard-majax_ has joined #instantbird 11:06:00 <aleth> crc-err0r: For bug 1076, it would be helpful to know if there was anything reported in the error console when/after this happens 11:06:04 <instantbot> Bug https://bugzilla.instantbird.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1076 nor, --, ---, nobody, UNCO, Messages randomly getting lost in the background 11:06:37 * aleth is glad tab complete exists or he would have typed crc-error 11:15:40 --> Tomek has joined #instantbird 11:27:08 --> igorko has joined #instantbird 11:30:35 <-- aleth has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 11:30:46 --> aleth has joined #instantbird 11:31:46 <crc-err0r> aleth: i'll make sure to check the error log if it happens again. 11:32:20 <aleth> I should have said, it's in Tools -> Error Console (in case you didn't know already) 11:32:58 <crc-err0r> yes i do know, thanks though :) 11:54:08 <-- aleth has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 12:46:10 --> Plop has joined #instantbird 12:51:26 --> aleth has joined #instantbird 12:57:55 --> Mnyromyr has joined #instantbird 13:00:59 <-- igorko has quit (Ping timeout) 13:04:27 --> igorko has joined #instantbird 13:18:06 <-- aleth has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 13:18:27 --> aleth has joined #instantbird 13:20:40 <-- Plop has quit (Ping timeout) 13:22:01 --> Plop has joined #instantbird 13:22:40 --> chrisccoulson has joined #instantbird 14:02:27 <-- chrisccoulson has quit (Quit: Ex-Chat) 14:13:41 --> chrisccoulson has joined #instantbird 14:14:06 <flo> "I am coming from using digsby before but they seem to be killing digsby intentionally and its pretty much useless now and no support." oh ! :-| 14:14:44 * gerard-majax_ is now known as gerard-majax 14:52:21 --> clokep has joined #instantbird 14:52:21 * ChanServ sets mode +h clokep 14:56:42 <-- igorko has quit (Connection reset by peer) 15:18:05 --> Plop1 has joined #instantbird 15:18:11 <-- Plop has quit (Ping timeout) 15:30:05 <-- gerard-majax has quit (Ping timeout) 15:39:12 --> igorko has joined #instantbird 16:42:38 <-- Plop1 has quit (Ping timeout) 16:49:48 --> Plop has joined #instantbird 16:51:33 <-- Plop has quit (Ping timeout) 16:52:16 --> Plop has joined #instantbird 17:01:44 <-- Plop has quit (Ping timeout) 17:01:48 --> Plop has joined #instantbird 18:32:32 <-- clokep has quit (Quit: Instantbird 1.2a1pre) 18:35:20 --> clokep has joined #instantbird 18:35:20 * ChanServ sets mode +h clokep 18:35:36 <clokep> Hmm...I just updated & crashd. :-/ 18:35:42 <clokep> Had to rollback. 18:35:56 <clokep> Did I see something about this in the logs?
